Neighbourhood Market

The Neighbourhood Market is a solidarity market that is held in Pointe-Claire during the summer months. As a non-profit market, its purpose is to improve access to affordable, fresh, local fruits and vegetables for all.

The market embraces a short supply chain by providing produce directly from local farms in and around the West Island – ensuring freshness, and supporting local farmers. You can also find ready-made meals and other items that are made by our partner, Corbeille de Pain, as part of their initiative to reduce food waste. Items are sold at an equitable price.

Because the goal is to make fruits and vegetables accessible to residents, we have a pay-what-you-can model. All prices are suggested, meaning shoppers who may need to pay a bit less, can, and those that can pay more, can round up their bill. Shoppers who pay more than the suggested price contribute to the wellbeing of the community and create a balance so their neighbour can pay less.

This initiative was created with the help of a resident committee, who chose this project based on their neighbourhood needs. Many of these residents are still involved as volunteers or clients at the market.
