The West Island Food Security Network project, funded by Centraide Grand Montréal, aims to connect stakeholders, political decision-makers, engaged citizens and funders in order to create more opportunities for collaboration and communication with a common goal to achieve a more food secure West Island. It is also an opportunity to have a stronger united voice to better advocate for and/or represent the reality of the West Island in terms of Food Security.
The project is led by both TQSOI and TQNOIM since it covers the whole West Island.

The portrait of food security in the West Island
This document is based on data from the latest census conducted by Statistics Canada, in 2021. It highlights socio-demographic data related to household food security, in order to establish a portrait of the West Island population and the populations most vulnerable to food insecurity.
Also appended is a list of food security resources available in the West Island.
Food Security Forum
Last October 19th, the TQSOI organized, in collaboration with TQNOIM and PME MTL Ouest-de-l’île, a Food Security Forum uniting more than 75 food security stakeholders, policy makers and engaged citizens. The event was a real success but first and foremost a great opportunity to discuss our collective needs and challenges around food security in the West Island. It was also an opportunity to present our latest Portrait on the state of food security in the West Island along with an updated resource list.
Strategic planning
Following the forum, a steering committee was set up to oversee the work for the establishment of the network. The committee meets monthly to discuss and make decisions on the next steps, including the legal form, the decision-making structure, which tools to be developed.
