Food Security
Access to fresh, affordable and healthy food is limited to the extent that the area can be considered as a food desert, meaning that very few citizens live within a 500 meter radius of a service providing fresh fruits and vegetables.
Housing
Very little affordable rental housing can be found in the southern West Island region. Social housing and co-operatives are virtually absent in this area.
Population Well-Being
In general, the southern West Island population is considered as advantaged from a socioeconomic point of view. But at the same time, hidden poverty still exists in pockets across the region.
Environment
The foundation of the TQSOI’s Environment Pathways aim to: protect and enhance access to green spaces; strengthen climate resilience and emergency preparedness; and mobilize stakeholders to improve waste management practices.
